Olive’s walk-off single gives Eagles 4-3 victory
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 6, 2015) – Matt Olive's single in the ninth inning gave the Tallahassee Community College Eagles a 4-3 walk-off victory over Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College on Friday night at Eagle Field.
The Eagles now sit at 14-8 for the season as they continue to prepare for the start of Panhandle Conference play.
Tallahassee drew first blood in its first at-bat. D.J. McKnight scored the game's first run on a single to right field by Zach Featherstone.
The Stallions came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning with a run of their own.
In the seventh inning, the Stallions took the lead, scoring two runs off Chris Elander. However, the Eagles answered right back with two runs of their own to keep the game tied at 3-3.
In the bottom of the ninth and facing two outs the Eagles rallied. Robert Henderson walked to get on base and keep the game alive. Geremy Walton entered the game as a pinch runner for Henderson and promptly stole second.
The next batter, Kyle Taddeo, was hit by a pitch that put runners on first and second base. Olive then stepped to the plate and, with two strikes, singled into right field to bring Walton home for the game-winning run.
Olive went 3-for-4 on the night with one RBI.
Elander got the start on the mound for the Eagles and went 6.1 innings striking out 10 batters.
Rion Murrah (4-1) entered the game in relief and was credited with the win.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Thomas University JV in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
