Bio

On May 15, 2026, Trent Short was named the seventh head coach in the history of the Tallahassee State College men’s basketball program.

Short brings nine years of collegiate coaching experience and a proven track record of success at both the NJCAA and NAIA levels. Throughout his coaching career, the programs he has served have combined for more than 117 wins, multiple conference and regional championships, and several national tournament appearances.

Most recently, Short served as Associate Head Coach at Chipola College, where he played a key role in recruiting, player development, scouting, budgeting, scheduling, and overall program operations. During his tenure, Chipola captured two Panhandle Conference championships, made consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances, and advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2025-26 season. The program also achieved a 3.21 team GPA, the highest in school history.

Prior to Chipola, Short coached at Jones College, helping lead the program to conference and regional championships along with an NJCAA National Tournament appearance. He also held coaching positions at University of Mobile and Central Methodist University, where he gained experience in recruiting, scouting, player development, and day-to-day program management.

Over the course of his career, Short has helped mentor numerous student-athletes who advanced to NCAA Division I programs, including Florida A&M University, Louisiana Tech University, Texas Christian University, Western Kentucky University, and University at Buffalo.

A former standout player at the University of Mobile, Short was a two-time all-conference selection and still holds the school’s career three-point shooting record. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and his master’s degree in higher education and leadership from the University of Mobile.

Known for his energy, relationship-building, and commitment to student-athlete development, Short’s coaching philosophy centers on discipline, accountability, academic excellence, and player development both on and off the court.
