Bio
On May 15, 2026, Trent Short was named the seventh head coach in the history of the Tallahassee State College men’s basketball program.
Short arrives at TSC after two highly successful seasons as Associate Head Coach at Chipola College, where he helped guide one of the nation's premier NJCAA programs to sustained success. During his tenure, the Indians compiled a 50-16 overall record, captured back-to-back Panhandle Conference Championships, won the 2026 Region 8 Championship, and advanced to two consecutive NJCAA National Tournaments, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2026.
As Associate Head Coach, Short played a key role in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting, player development, game planning, budgeting, eligibility, and day-to-day operations. Widely regarded as one of the top recruiters and player development coaches in junior college basketball, he has helped mentor numerous All-Conference, All-Region, and All-America selections while preparing student-athletes for success at the NCAA Division I level.
Throughout his coaching career, Short has helped more than a dozen student-athletes earn Division I scholarships, including signees to programs such as TCU, Buffalo, Texas State, Louisiana Tech, Florida A&M, Southern, Montana, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, North Florida, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Rice. His commitment to player development extends beyond basketball, emphasizing academic achievement, leadership, and preparing student-athletes for success both on and off the court.
Prior to Chipola, Short spent the 2023-24 season at Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, where he helped lead the Bobcats to a 27-7 record, MACCC Championship, NJCAA Region 23 Championship, and Gulf District Championship. Jones earned its first NJCAA National Tournament appearance since 2017 during his lone season on staff.
Short began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Central Methodist University during the 2021-22 season, helping the Eagles to a 22-11 record and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. He then returned to his alma mater, the University of Mobile, serving as an assistant coach during the 2022-23 season while helping lead the Rams to an 18-11 record and one of the program's best finishes in more than a decade.
Before entering coaching, Short enjoyed an outstanding playing career at the University of Mobile, where he was a three-year starter, two-time team captain, and one of the top shooters in program history. He still holds the school records for single-season three-point percentage (.455) and three-pointers made per game (3.2), while earning three consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors.
A native of Pensacola, Florida, Short graduated from Pace High School before continuing his academic and athletic career at the University of Mobile. He earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science before completing a master's degree in Higher Education and Leadership.
