Eagle Baseball Season Preview

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - January 25, 2025 - Tallahassee State College baseball is set to kick off their 2025 season later this month. TSC finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 24-27 and a conference record of 7-17. However, the Eagles dominated in the fall, spelling high hopes for Head Coach Bryan Henry and his staff.

"The main goal that we've talked about as a coaching staff is just to get better every year and establish our culture. So far, this group is a hard working group: they get after it every day and they do more than what we've asked of," said Henry. "What impressed me the most is how well these guys came together as a team."

New to the coaching staff this season is Kyle Dinges, joining TSC as their fourth assistant coach. Dinges formerly played for Dutchess Community College before signing with SUNY Oswego, where he played infield. He is the brother of Marco Dinges, a former standout TSC and Florida State baseball player.

"[Kyle brings] that youth, energy, and want to learn. He relates to the players really well," said Henry. "He's here with them, putting in that extra work. It's good to have that hunger."

The Eagles return several of their best bats from 2024, including All-Panhandle Second Team selections Boone Hosey and Hunter Rebhan. Familiar arms like Ryan Meekins, Harbersting Abreu, and Justin Morales also return for their sophomore seasons.

Three transfers in Gilberto Reyes-Torres (RHP, Florida State), Andrew Duncan (OF, Florida State), Eric Fernandez (INF, Miami (FL)), and Evan Macintyre (OF, Indiana) will join the Eagles in the spring, providing key NCAA DI experience and depth to the roster.

"Our expectations for our team in general are pitching and defense. The last two years, we've been very offensive and could really swing it," said Henry. "We've really emphasized this fall with individual work and with the guys that we've brought in that we want to be a better staff on the mound."

Tallahassee State College will host Andrew College on Jan. 26 for their first game of the season. The Eagles fell to the Fighting Tigers 5-1 in their season opener last year, but came back swinging to take them down 10-0 (7 inn.) later in March.

The Eagles travel south to Leesburg, FL to face Lake Sumter State College on Jan. 27 before heading upward to Brewton, AL to face Coastal Alabama North on Jan. 29. TSC took down both teams across all meetings last season.

The team will return home to host the Seminole State College of Florida on Jan. 31 to close out the first month of play. The Eagles then travel down to Sanford, FL for a doubleheader against the Raiders at their place on Feb. 1. The two teams haven't met since 2014 when TSC took down Seminole State 20-1 in the FCSAA Wild Card Game to advance to the state tournament.

Back at home, TSC will face Santa Fe College on Feb. 3 followed by Wallace Community College - Dothan on Feb. 4. The Eagles took down the Saints 20-9 in their single meeting last season and went 1-2 against the Governors across three meetings.

The Eagles will hit the road for another meeting with Santa Fe on Feb. 7 in Gainesville before heading even more south to Sarasota to play the State College of Florida (Manatee-Sarasota) in a doubleheader on Feb. 8. TSC fell in all three meetings with SCF in 2024.

TSC returns to Eagle Field for another matchup with Lake Sumter State College on Feb. 10 followed by the College of Central Florida on Feb. 11. The Eagles went 1-1 in their two meetings with the Patriots last season, the latter of which fell to Pensacola State College in the FCSAA DI Wild Card Game last season after winning the NJCAA National Championship in 2023.

Feb. 13 will see TSC head to Dothan, AL for another meeting with Wallace Community College before heading back to play TNXL Academy on Feb. 15. The Eagles head down to Ocala to play the College of Central Florida on Feb. 18.

Three meetings with South Georgia State College follow. Tallahassee will host the first meeting on Feb. 20 before rematching the Hawks at their house on Feb. 22 for a doubleheader. Grand Rapids Community College will then come to town for a doubleheader on Feb. 24. The Eagles swept the GRCC Raiders 14-7 and 10-8 last season.

To cap off February, TSC will head just across the state line to play Andrew College on Feb. 27. March opens with a doubleheader at Eagle Field versus Thomas University JV on Mar. 3, just before conference play begins.

TSC's first Panhandle opponent of 2025 will be Chipola College, who finished first in the conference last season but fell to Northwest Florida in the FCSAA State Championship game. Tallahassee went 1-5 against the Indians in 2024, managing to break a five-game losing streak by securing the lone win in their final doubleheader. The Mar. 7 game will be played in Marianna and the Mar. 8 game will be played in Tallahassee.

Next up is Gulf Coast State College on Mar. 14 (away) and Mar. 15 (home). The Eagles were 2-4 against the Commodores in 2024. Gulf Coast ranked third in the Panhandle conference last season.

Pensacola State College will visit Tallahassee on Mar. 17 and will then host the Eagles on Mar. 19. TSC evened the series 3-3 with PSC last year, winning the final few matchups back-to-back at Eagle Field against the then-ranked Pirates. Pensacola clinched FCSAA Tournament berth, but ultimately fell to Indian River State College at the Fort Pierce Regional.

Tallahassee will then meet Northwest Florida State College on Mar. 21 (home) and Mar. 22 (away). The Eagles managed a win in their final meeting out of six with the Raiders who were then ranked No. 12 in the nation. NWFSC emerged as Panhandle Conference Champions and went on to defeat Chipola College to win the FCSAA State Championship, ultimately making it all the way to the 2024 NJCAA DI Baseball World Series Championship where they fell to the national champion Blinn College Buccaneers.

"The Panhandle is one of the best conferences in the country. We know going in that every game will be a dog fight and a hard-fought battle," said Henry. "The plan of attack this year is [having] more depth on the mound to keep ourselves in those games."

"In all of those games [last year], there weren't many that we had no shot in: we were in every game. That's why you come to TSC and play in the Panhandle: to play the best."

The Eagles rematch Chipola College in their next four games. Two games will be played in Marianna on Mar. 25 and Mar. 27 before the Indians visit for a doubleheader on Mar. 29 to close off the month.

The Eagles then head back to Panama City on Apr. 8 and Apr. 10 to play Gulf Coast before hosting a doubleheader on Apr. 12. Pensacola State will travel to Tallahassee for home games on Apr. 15 and Apr. 17 before hosting the Eagles at their house for an Apr. 19 doubleheader. Lastly, Northwest Florida will visit on Apr. 22 and Apr. 24, followed by a doubleheader with the Eagles in Niceville on Apr. 26.

The State Tournament Play-In Game will take place on Apr. 30 and State Tournament Regionals will begin on May 5, leading up to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Championship on May 9 in Tampa, FL. The 2025 NJCAA DI Baseball World Series will begin on May 24.
