Eagles face elimination against Northwest Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 22, 2014) – Finally, Tallahassee Community College's baseball team knows exactly what must happen in order to advance to the postseason for a second straight year: three wins in three games and some help from its arch-rival.

When the Eagles take the field at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Northwest Florida State College, they will face elimination – the result of the Raiders' 9-1 win over Panhandle Conference leader Gulf Coast State College on Monday.

While Gulf Coast State and Chipola College will battle for the conference championship over the season's final four days, Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State are vying for the PC's "Wild Card" berth, which goes to the third-place team, and the subsequent Wild Card game against the third-place team from the Mid-Florida Conference.

That game would take place either Monday, April 28 or Tuesday, April 29 at a neutral site, but first things first for the Eagles.

With three games remaining for both teams, Northwest Florida (9-8) enjoys a three-game lead over Tallahassee (6-11).

Simply put, the Eagles must first defeat Northwest Florida State on Tuesday then sweep a season-ending home-and-home against Gulf Coast State on Wednesday and Friday – and, at the same time, hope Chipola can do the same in its final two games against Northwest Florida State.

That scenario would leave both Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State at 9-11 in league play – and give the Eagles the Wild Card berth by virtue of winning the head-to-head series with the Raiders.

Anything less and the Eagles' season will end in Panama City on Friday.
