Eagles beat Gordon State in home opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 6, 2015) – The Tallahassee Community College baseball team improved to 3-3 on the season with a 4-1 win over Gordon (Ga.) State College Friday evening in the Eagles' 2015 home opener.

Friday was the third meeting in eight days between the two schools. Gordon State won the first two in Panama City, Fla., at last weekend's First Pitch Classic and the Highlanders struck first on Friday.

Ty Hobbs' fourth-inning solo homer off Tallahassee starter Chris Elander gave Gordon State a 1-0 lead.

The lead did not last long as Tallahassee answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run of its own.

It all started when Kyle Taddeo doubled down the left field line. Geremy Walton then brought the tying run home on a shallow single to centerfield.

The Eagles were not done though, scoring three more runs in the sixth to take the lead.  With two men on base, Tyler Kinard doubled to right field scoring Tyler AtwellCody Fulton later scored on a single to shallow center. After loading the bases the Eagles scored their third run of the inning when D.J. McKnight drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Robert Henderson

Elander struck out six batters while only surrendering one run over 5.2 innings. Rion Murrsah entered in relief and pitched the final 3.1 innings to record the victory. He struck out three.

Offensively, Walton went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI to lead the Eagles.

Tallahassee will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on Gordon State in the final game of the two-game series.  First pitch will be at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field.
