Eagles walk off 3-2 against Shelton State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 13, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College won game two of its series with Shelton (Ala.) State Community College, 3-2, on a walk-off single by Tyler Atwell on Saturday as the Eagles improved to 7-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 at home.
Tallahassee struck first in the third inning when Chase Johnson-Mullins walked Kyle Taddeo. Taddeo advanced to second after Mullins was called for a balk and then advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt.
Following a pitching change, Geremy Walton singled to left to score Taddeo and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Shelton State answered back in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
The Eagles took the lead again in the seventh inning when Walton singled to shallow left to score Jeremy Scott.
Again, the Buccaneers answered, tying the game in the eighth inning on a fielding error by the Eagles.
And with extra innings looming, Atwell smacked a double that hugged the right field line and scored Scott from second with the game-winner.
Scott went 1-for-2 on the night, scored twice and had one RBI.
Shaun Herbert got the start for the Eagles and went 3.2 innings and struck out three batters.
Rion Murrah took the mound in relief and struck out nine batters over five innings to earn the victory.
The Eagles will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they wrap up their series with Shelton State. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
