Eagle men bounce back against NWF State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 25, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's men's basketball team got back into the win column on Thursday, defeating Northwest Florida State College, 91-60, in Panhandle Conference action.
The Eagles are 11-2 overall and will take a 5-2 PC record into the finale of second round play on Saturday at Pensacola State College.
Trailing 5-2 almost five minutes in, El Ellis hit three of four free throws to tie the game. The Eagles then added the game's next ten points for a 15-5 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
After knocking down a school-record 20 threes last Saturday, the Eagles managed just 5-of-22 shooting in Tuesday's loss at Chipola College.. The on again, off again relationship with the three-point line was on again against the Raiders. Tallahassee heated up and eventually shot 8-of-15 from three in the first half.
The Eagles hit three during a 13-0 run that ended with Etan Collins' triple for a 35-14 lead with 3:57 left in the half.
Chris Hampton hit another three to give the Eagles a 42-21 at the intermission.
The Raiders came out strong to start the second half, pulling to within 53-38 at the 13:37 mark. Tallahassee led just 62-46 at the halfway point, but scored 11 of the next 13 points to lead 73-49 with 7:12 left in the game.
The Eagles led by as many as 36 points in the second half.
Ellis scored 15 of his game-high 27 points after the intermission to lead six players in double figures.
DeAngelo Ware and Jeremiah Kendall scored 12 points each. Collins, Hampton and Walker each scored 11.
Saturday's game at Pensacola State is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m.
