Tallahassee
VERO BEACH, Fla. (May 3, 2015) - FCSAA No. 7 Tallahassee Community College saw its season come to an end Sunday morning with a 10-0 defeat to FCSAA No. 2/NJCAA No. 4 Seminole State College in the loser's bracket semifinal at the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament.
Tallahassee, whose season ends at 33-17, finished fourth in the tournament's new 16-team format.
Entering Sunday, the Eagles had won ten straight elimination games in the tournament, dating back to last season, including three over a 12-plus hour span on Saturday, capped by a 5-1 upset of top-ranked College of Central Florida late Saturday night.
Today was a different story, however, as the Eagles simply ran out of gas against the Raiders.
The game remained within reach for three innings as pitchers Mariah Rivera and Gabrielle Decker did a nice job limiting Seminole State to a 4-0 lead. The Raiders put the game away with a six-run fourth, enabling them to end the game in five innings via the mercy rule.
Tallahassee placed two players on the FCSAA All-Tournament Team – third baseman Brooke Marendino and centerfielder Taesha DuBoise.
