TCC Softball earns NJCAA academic award
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 6, 2016) – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its 2015-16 Academic Team Awards on Wednesday, and Tallahassee Community College’s softball team was recognized for a second straight year.
The Eagles garnered NJCAA Academic Team Award Honorable Mention by assembling a minimum 3.0 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year.
Head coach Patti Townsend’s 15-player squad scored a 3.18 team GPA to be exact, led by a quartet of players – freshmen Elisa Cecchetti, Casey Durham and Alyssa NeSmith and sophomore Alexandra Cook – who earned NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete honors on Tuesday by virtue of achieving a minimum 3.60 grade point average.
Demonstrating consistency throughout the roster, 12 of the Eagles’ 15 players previously earned Panhandle Conference All-Academic honors for achieving a minimum 3.0 GPA, either during the current academic year or over multiple years. Nine of the 12 also earned FCSAA All-Academic honors with a minimum 3.30 GPA.
Team members include: Cecchetti, Durham, NeSmith, Cook, Alycia Smith, Kristin Gunter, Rosalee Alexander, Khayreyah Parrish, Julianne Gillo, Jaylene Pryor, Brooke Marendino, Madisen Blair, Brooke Bates, Raya Moncus and Kiara Johnson.
