TCC drops DH to St. Johns River

PALATKA, Fla. (February 18, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team dropped both games of Thursday's doubleheader at St. Johns River State College, falling by the scores of 6-2 and 8-4.

In the opener, St. Johns River State starting pitcher Macy Kelly scattered six hits in the complete-game effort and carried a 6-0 lead into the seventh before the Eagles broke through.

Sheshe Ortiz reached on an error to lead off the inning and scored on Esmee Toet's triple to get Tallahassee on the board and break up the shutout bid.

Three batters later, and after Toet stayed put while Jania Davis beat out an infield single, MacKenzie Childs' sac-fly plated Toet for the Eagles' final run.

Davis went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and Stacey Hudson was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Emma Fowler took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee.

In the nightcap, it was Tallahassee who drew first blood on Raven Little's two-run homer in the top of the third.

The score remained 2-0 into the bottom of the fourth when St. Johns River put seven runs on the board.

Tallahassee got one of the runs back in the sixth on Ortiz' RBI-double that scored Little. After the Vikings answered in the bottom half, the Eagles scored again in the seventh when Maddy Walther singled home Childs.

Little was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Emery Mayne was tagged with the loss for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will return to the field on Saturday and Sunday for play in the Courtney Miller Invitational, hosted by Seminole State College. The first game of the weekend is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday against St. Petersburg College.
