Eagles knock off FSCJ at CMI

LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 21, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team split its two games during day two action at the Courtney Miller Invitational hosted by Seminole State College. 

The Eagles fought off Florida State College at Jacksonville for a 3-2 win in their first game of the day then suffered an 8-0 setback to the host Raiders. 

Against FSCJ, freshman Raven Little continued her strong offensive start to the 2021 season in the 3-2 victory. 

Little had a part in all three of the Eagles' runs. She doubled and scored on Jade Castillo's single in the second to put Tallahassee in front, 1-0. Then, with the game tied at 1-1, her two-run homer in the sixth put the Eagles in front, 3-1. 

FSCJ made things interesting in the seventh. The Blue Wave loaded the bases with just one out to force Tallahassee starter Emery Mayne out of the game. 

Emma Fowler induced a sac-fly to left for the second out then a fly out to centerfielder MacKenzie Childs to end the game and strand the tying run at third. 

Mayne (2-1) scattered six hits and three walks over 6.1 innings to earn the win. She struck out six. 

The save was the second of Fowler's career. 

Little (2-for-3), Aneyshka Aponte (2-for-3) and Stacey Hudson (2-for-2) had two hits apiece for Tallahassee. 

In the Eagles' final game of the weekend, Seminole State scored in each of the first four innings en route to the 8-0 victory. 

Fowler (1-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee. 

Little had the Eagles' only hit of the game, a second-inning single. She was retired one batter later when Maddy Walther reached on a fielders' choice. Tallahassee's only other base runner came in the fourth when Hudson reached base on a walk. 

Tallahassee (3-9) will return to play on Friday when it hosts Pasco-Hernando State College in the 2021 home opener. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
