TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 26, 2021) – Emma Fowler pitched a complete game and Sheshe Ortiz had three hits in Tallahassee Community College's 6-1, game one victory over Pasco-Hernando State College on Friday in the Eagles' home opener at the TCC Softball Complex.
Pasco-Hernando State fought off the Eagles, 6-4, to win the nightcap and come away with a split of the doubleheader.
Fowler (2-4) scattered six hits and two walks over her seven innings in the circle. Taylor Tremmel's solo homer in the third was the only run Fowler allowed in the game.
Tallahassee gave Fowler all the runs she would need when it scored twice in its first at-bat.
Jania Davis led off the inning with a walk, stole second and scored on Stacey Hudson's single to right-center. Raven Little, who also singled her way on base, later scored on Sheshe Ortiz' double to put the Eagles on top, 2-1.
Aneyshka Aponte drew a leadoff walk in the second and later scored, and Maddy Walther followed suit in the third – a leadoff walk then scored on Aponte's RBI-single. Ortiz, who followed Aponte with a walk of her own, scored when Davis beat out an infield single.
Tallahassee finished the scoring in the fourth when Ortiz doubled home Hudson.
Ortiz finished 3-for-3 with two RBI. Davis, Little and Hudson had two hits apiece.
In game two, the Bobcats scored four times in their first at-bat, all after two were out, to knock out the Eagles' game two starter Isanthe Rouwenhorst.
Tallahassee got right back in the game in its first at-bat when Hudson hit a three-run homer to left.
The teams traded runs in the third then Pasco-Hernando State tacked on a run in the fifth.
Trailing 6-4, Tallahassee came within inches of tying the game in the sixth. With Little on base, Hudson hit a deep fly to left. Instead of a tie game, the ball hit high off the fence for a standup double. Pasco-Hernando State got out of the inning unscathed and retired the Eagles in order in the seventh.
Hudson went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Eagles. Walther was 2-for-4.
Tallahassee (4-10) will travel to Andrew (Ga.) College on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Fighting Tigers. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
