Long ball powers Eagles to sweep of Santa Fe

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 11, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College hit four home runs, including two by Raven Little, en route to a doubleheader sweep of Santa Fe College on Thursday, winning by the scores of 9-1 and 3-2.

Little, who has a team-high six homers, went 2-for-3 with five RBI in the game one victory. Her three-run homer in the fifth preceded Sheshe Ortiz' solo shot to end the game in walk-off fashion.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning of game two, Little hit an opposite-field shot to tie the game. After consecutive strikeouts, a two-out error kept the inning alive and the Eagles took advantage.

Aneyshka Aponte reached base when Saints first baseman Ashlyn Rogers dropped an infield popup. Following a walk to MacKenzie Childs, consecutive singles by Jania Davis and Emery Mayne scored Jade Castillo, who entered the game as a pinch runner for Aponte, to give Tallahassee a 3-2 lead.

The rally gave Emily Oakes (2-2) the win in relief for Tallahassee. She replaced Mayne, who started game two, with one out in the third and held the Saints hitless over 1.2 innings.

Isanthe Rouwenhorst came on to start the fifth and protected the lead with three scoreless innings of two-hit ball.

The Saints put the tying run on in the seventh with one out, but Madison Dixon hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game and give Rouwenhorst her first save.

Maddy Walther was 3-for-3 in game two and scored on Little's home run. Davis had two hits.

In game one, Tallahassee jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Little's first inning double that scored Mayne and Stacey Hudson

After Santa Fe got one of the runs back in the second on a solo homer by Rogers, Tallahassee answered with three runs – all scoring after two were out. Mayne singled home Aponte and scored on Hudson's two-run blast to left to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.

Hudson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Mayne was 1-for-2, scored twice and drove in a run.

Emma Fowler (4-5) pitched a five-inning complete game for the win.

Tallahassee (9-11) will host Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College at 2 p.m. Friday.
