Eagles fall to Pearl River at home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 21, 2022) - After a tough weekend in Pensacola, the TCC Women's Basketball team returned home to face Pearl River Community College inside the Eagledome. In a back-and-forth battle in which each team won two quarters each, it was the Wildcats who left with the 63-57 victory. The Eagles held Pearl River to just 30% shooting from the field, but a barrage of shot attempts allowed them to rack up enough scoring to secure the win.

It was the third game in four days for the Eagles, one of the densest periods in their schedule. "Manage practice, manage reps, it's more of a time thing than anything," said head coach Mercedes Corona, when asked how she tries to get through the busy portions of their non-conference schedule. "It's about knowing their bodies and making sure they recover."

"If you look at the other games," said sophomore guard Sarai Estupinan, "I think we do fight at the end but I think it's going to take a consistent fight throughout the game."

Estupinan leads the team in scoring on the season and came away with 18 points in Tuesday's contest. Danesha Boles (F, Soph.) and Za'Naria Robinson (C, Fresh.) denied the Wildcats on multiple occasions, recording three blocks each.

The Wildcats were able to maintain their lead by winning the rebound battle. "Rebounding is a 'want to' thing," said Corona. "We just have to dig in a lot better and have some 'want to,' and have some dog in us."

The Eagles won't play again until after the Thanksgiving holiday. On Saturday, November 26 they play Santa Fe at home with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 PM. The Saints have won the first two matchups between the non-conference foes, but they have two more games remaining against each other on the schedule with the first coming this Saturday.

Tickets can be purchased for all remaining home games here. All home games are also streamed live on the Athletics website
