Women's Cross Country Show Grit at FSU Invitational
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - September 26, 2025 – The Tallahassee State women's cross country team demonstrated remarkable resilience and competitive spirit at the FSU Invitational this morning, competing against some of the nation's top programs at Apalachee Regional Park.
In a field featuring 36 teams, including major SEC and ACC programs such as LSU, Georgia, Florida State, and Miami, the team faced an unexpected challenge when showing up to race a 5K only to find out they would actually be running a 6K.
Despite the surprise distance change, the team competed with determination against elite competition. Leading the way for the Eagles was Sarah Costello, who finished 296th overall with a time of 28:14.7. Sada Bostick followed closely behind, crossing the line 326th in 30:13.4.
Orianna Madden (334th, 31:40.8), Abbie Mickelson (345th, 33:26.0), and Kaylee Sanders (346th, 34:35.8) rounded out the scoring for the team, which finished 36th overall.
"Being one of only seven two-year institutions in this field, competing alongside powerhouse programs, our women gained invaluable experience," added Coach Guinan. "The fact that they maintained their composure and competitive edge when faced with the unexpected distance change speaks volumes about their preparation and mental strength."
The team will look to build on this experience as they continue their season, having proven they can compete and adapt at the highest levels of collegiate cross country.
Their next race comes a week from today, October 3rd as they race the Gulf Coast Invite in Panama City Florida.
