Women’s Basketball Closes Before Break With Dominant Win Over Hillsborough
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - December 18, 2025 — The Eagle women's basketball team closed out play before the Christmas break in emphatic fashion, defeating Hillsborough 69–38 on Monday night. The victory marked the team's ninth win of the season, already matching last year's total with more than half of the schedule still remaining.
The strong start to the season continued behind a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense that held Hillsborough to just 38 points. The team controlled the game from the opening tip, building a comfortable lead and never looking back.
Madeline Penney led all scorers with 19 points off the bench, adding four assists and four rebounds in an all-around performance. Penney knocked down three three-pointers, shooting 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Hanna Pettner turned in a career night, scoring a career-high 11 points while adding three rebounds. Pettner was efficient from the floor, finishing 5-for-7 and providing a strong presence in the rotation.
Leanna Pabst also reached double figures with 10 points and narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds to go along with five assists. Pabst played a key role in setting the tempo and facilitating the offense throughout the contest.
The team finished the game shooting over 40 percent from the field and limited Hillsborough on the defensive end, continuing a trend of strong two-way play this season.
The women will return to action on December 30 when they face North Arkansas in the New Year's Classic, hosted in Pensacola, Florida, looking to build on their impressive start to the season.
